Legal Information for Teenagers
It is important to realize that changes may occur in this area of law. This information is not intended to be legal advice regarding your particular problem, and it is not intended to replace the work of an attorney.

As a teenager, you probably have questions about such things as jobs, cars and credit cards. You may be concerned about your friend’s use of drugs or alcohol. You may want more information about your civil rights or want to become emancipated. One way to get answers to your questions is to call the Oregon State Bar’s Problem Solvers program.

Oregon lawyers volunteer as Problem Solvers to offer free legal information and advice to young people. If you are between 11 and 17 years old, you can call to ask for a Problem Solvers lawyer. The number is (503) 684-3763 in the Portland area and toll-free elsewhere in Oregon at (800) 452-7636. Our online lawyer referral service is available here. Once you are given the lawyer’s name and phone number, you will have to call the lawyer to set up an appointment. You should explain to the lawyer that you were referred through the Problem Solvers program and you need legal help. The lawyer will give you a free 30-minute visit.
